On one of our last days, Steve brought in some pieces from a series he was working on. Here, he's explaining how doing color studies enhanced his ability to see all the nuances of color in flesh. It's hard to see those nuances on a cell phone photo, but there's lavender, blue, yellow and many other colors in what reads as skin.
Steve said something that really resonated with me, something that has already helped me to stay on the path of art making, and in my new profession of occupational therapy.
"The only reason I'm so good now, is I was willing to suck for so long," he said.
