Forty-Three
I love Tara's comment on last week's drawing of the sphenoid. In my work as a therapist, one thing that's challenging but necessary to convey is that we are so much more alive than we realize. When we think of bone we tend to think dry, hard, white. But that's dead bone. We are made of living bone which is always being formed and modified. Bones form by the pull of muscle, muscles move at the command of the nervous system, and the nervous system responds, most often, to the pull of our perception.

your writing today reminded me of a project my girls have been involved with for years which is the" million bones" project to bring awareness of genocide. My girls have had to make many bones out of clay which can be a very intimate experience. you have to decide which bone to make and then try to add as many details as possible. ultimately the group will try to bring one million bones to the mall in washington next month. i've never seen that many bones at once but i have gone to mini displays of thousands of bones laid out in the streets. Its both horrific and beautiful to see them piled up. i guess its easier to see the beauty when you know they are not "real".
thank you for sharing your drawings.
