Saint Mary's

I fell in love with Saint Mary's as soon as I walked in. Was it the view out the window, more beautiful than the internet could describe? Was it the table, perfect for writing? Maybe it was the owl in the blue glass, reminding me of the owl that flew by my windshield when I entered Maine, reminding me of the owl I saw last year. Or was it the blue plate on the wall, the same one my grandmother owned? Yes, all of it.

I'd gone with a picture on a website and a prayer. The building was originally a grist mill, then a meeting hall for Saint Mary's, Star of the Sea, the Catholic church on the top of the hill. So that's what I called her, Saint Mary's, my star of the sea.
